Frequently Asked Questions
Should line-height be unitless or use px?+
Prefer unitless. A unitless value multiplies the element's own font-size, so it stays proportional when the type scales or when a child element has a different size. A px value is absolute and inherits as an absolute length, which silently breaks vertical rhythm the moment font-size changes.
Why is my real line length different from the preview?+
The ch unit equals the advance width of the "0" glyph in the current font. This preview renders in Fraunces, so switching to a narrower or wider family changes how many characters actually fit inside the same ch value. Treat the number as a starting point and re-check the character count in your own typeface.
Is justified text a good idea on the web?+
Only with enough characters per line. Below roughly 45 characters the browser has too few word gaps to distribute, producing rivers of white space and an uneven grey value. If you justify, pair it with hyphens: auto and a generous measure — which is why the justify option here emits both declarations.
Why does text-indent only shift one line per paragraph?+
text-indent applies to the first line of a block container, not to every visual line. Each paragraph is its own block, so the indent repeats once per paragraph. To inset every line you want padding-left or margin-left instead.
Are CSS multi-column layouts production-safe?+
The properties are supported everywhere, but you cannot control which content lands in which column, and fragmentation of images, borders, and shadows across a column break is handled inconsistently between engines. Use columns for continuous running text, not for cards, forms, or anything interactive.
Do I need an account to use Indentation Tool?+
No. Every tool on TypoStudio.tools runs fully in the browser with no account, email, or API key.
Is my input text stored anywhere?+
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared with a server, and closing the tab discards everything.
Can I use the output commercially?+
Yes. Generated Unicode strings and CSS snippets are yours to use in commercial and personal work with no attribution required.
Which browsers are supported?+
The latest two versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
