Frequently Asked Questions
Are the recommended fonts free to use?+
Yes. Every family suggested here is either a system font already installed on your device or an open-licensed Google Fonts release — in practice the SIL Open Font License — which permits commercial use and self-hosting. If you plan to redistribute or modify a font file, read that specific family's licence first.
Why might the bold or italic in the preview look slightly off?+
This page downloads the regular weight of each preview family only, so the browser synthesises bold and italic by smearing and slanting the regular cut. A real designed bold or true italic from the same family has different proportions and details. Load the actual weights you need before finalising a decision.
Are these pairings rules or just suggestions?+
Suggestions, and deliberately conservative ones. Each pairing contrasts structure rather than style — high-contrast serif against humanist sans, condensed display against geometric sans, or two members of one superfamily. Once you understand why a pair works you can substitute families with the same structural relationship.
How do I get a pairing into my own project?+
Link the two families from Google Fonts or self-host the woff2 files, then apply the display face to headings only and the body face to running copy at 14–18px. Loading more than two families, or more than a couple of weights each, is usually the first thing to cut when optimising page weight.
Why do the preview fonts only load on this page?+
Font files are the heaviest part of a typography preview, so they are requested only by the tools that actually need them rather than on every page of the site. That keeps the rest of TypoStudio.tools fast, and means the preview fonts here may take a moment to swap in on a slow connection.
Do I need an account to use Style Random Picker?+
No. Every tool on TypoStudio.tools runs fully in the browser with no account, email, or API key.
Is my input text stored anywhere?+
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared with a server, and closing the tab discards everything.
Can I use the output commercially?+
Yes. Generated Unicode strings and CSS snippets are yours to use in commercial and personal work with no attribution required.
Which browsers are supported?+
The latest two versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
